About the Detroit Lions

What to Check on This Team Page

The Detroit Lions have played in the NFL since 1930 and moved into Ford Field in downtown Detroit in 2002, an indoor stadium known for its retractable-roof-style skylight and electric home atmosphere. The Lions won four NFL championships prior to the Super Bowl era, most recently in 1957, and have spent decades since chasing a return to that level. The team's rivalry with the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears in the NFC North has intensified in recent seasons as Detroit has emerged as a legitimate contender. Detroit's Thanksgiving Day home game is a national tradition dating back to 1934, giving the Lions a permanent spotlight every year regardless of record. Running back Barry Sanders, one of the most electrifying players in NFL history, headlines the franchise's list of all-time greats. Recent rosters built around a physical offensive line and aggressive coaching have made the Lions one of the league's most-watched turnaround stories. Start with the NFLBite home page for the wider league overview, use the NFL schedule to check upcoming matchups, review the NFL scores for recent results, and visit the NFL team directory to compare this franchise with the rest of the league.
