About the San Francisco 49ers

What to Check on This Team Page

The San Francisco 49ers joined the NFL in 1950 and play home games at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley. The franchise's 1980s and '90s dynasty, built by coach Bill Walsh's West Coast offense and led by quarterback Joe Montana and receiver Jerry Rice, produced five Super Bowl titles and redefined how NFL offenses were built. The 49ers' NFC West rivalry with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams has produced some of the division's most physical, hard-hitting games over the past decade. San Francisco's "Catch" moments, from Montana-to-Clark in the 1981 NFC Championship to modern playoff classics, are woven into NFL history. Jerry Rice retired as the league's all-time leading receiver, a record that stood for years after his final season. The 49ers continue to build around a power-running scheme and aggressive defense, chasing a sixth Super Bowl title after several near-misses in recent seasons.
